Exploring the Charm of Ilocos Sur: A Journey Through History and Culture

The Philippines is a country that is rich in culture and history. From the stunning beaches to the breathtaking mountains, there is something for every traveler. One of the hidden gems of the Philippines is the province of Ilocos Sur, which is located in the northern part of the country. I had the pleasure of exploring this beautiful province a few years ago with my family, and it was an unforgettable experience.

Ilocos Sur is known for its rich history and culture. The province was founded by Spanish conquistador Juan de Salcedo in 1572 and has been a witness to many significant events in Philippine history. The province is also home to many historic landmarks that showcase Spanish colonial architecture.

During our visit, we had the chance to stay at Kalye Crisologo, a beautiful hotel that is located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Vigan City. The hotel is a restored ancestral house that showcases classic Filipino-Spanish architecture. The place was perfect for our stay as it provided us with a glimpse of the city’s rich history.

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the Bantay Belltower, a historic structure that dates back to the Spanish colonial era. The bell tower is located on a hill, which gave us a panoramic view of the surrounding areas. We climbed the steep stairs to reach the top, and it was worth the effort. We were able to witness a beautiful sunset from the top of the bell tower, and it was a breathtaking sight.

Another thing that we enjoyed during our trip was trying out the Ilocano delicacies. We sampled the famous Vigan longganisa, bagnet, and empanada, among others. The food was delicious, and we even brought some home as pasalubong.

The trip to Ilocos Sur was a great bonding experience for my family. We had a lot of fun exploring the province, and we created lasting memories that we still cherish to this day.

In conclusion, Ilocos Sur is a beautiful province in the Philippines that is worth visiting. If you want to experience a place that is rich in history and culture, then this is the place to be. The province has a lot to offer, from beautiful architecture to delicious food. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an unforgettable travel experience with their loved ones.
